OUR HISTORY
Our wonderful choir was originally formed in August 2011 by Christine Barton when we were then known as Rock Choir Isle of Man. We performed at several concerts in and around Laxey but had to fold early in 2013 due to Christine’s ill-health.
A group of us kept in touch as we had all become firm friends and met socially from time to time. It was during one of those social gatherings back in August 2013 that we decided that we would re-form the choir and arranged to all meet up again in a week or so to discuss the logistics of what we wanted to do. It was then that Roc Vannin was born!
We had 35 original members attend that meeting, most of whom are still with us now. - to date we have 52 lovely members.
A committee was formed to organise the day to day running of the choir and it was decided to employ a Musical Director as none of us actually had that particular skill - this seems to be a winning formula for us as we all have a say in what we like to sing and where we want to perform. Over the last 3 years we have had a number of Musical Directors but at present we are lucky enough to have Mr David Holland and the help of John Barlow to lead us – a winning duo if ever there was one!
As a community based choir, we do not perform for personal gain. We nominate a charity every year to support with donations from our many faithful fans plus any contributions from organisations that we have performed for. Over the years organisations have ranged from Bushys and the Grandstand on Mad Sunday to Ramsey Commissioners for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting (which we have done since 2013) to Port St Mary Lifeboat Day. By the time the year is out we will have performed for almost 30 separate events.
Our choir is very special to each and every one of us. It has given us confidence in ourselves and our fellow members knowing how well we work together.

BECOMING A MEMBER
Roc Vannin currently has over 50 members.
We are predominantly a female choir but this is not out of choice. We now have 6 brave men now who enjoy it as much as the rest of us.
For our choir to grow we ideally need to have a strong male section and are working to try and attract more male voices to give our sound more depth so any males out there who are looking for an enjoyable hobby, look no further.
New members are accepted upon request, however we also hold a new member intake twice a year. Interested in joining, Roc Vannin Choir? Then we're interested in hearing from you!
